Chance to lead Glasgow's world-class events programme

11/04/2012
A number of exciting opportunities have arisen to join the team responsible for delivering Glasgow's world-class events programme.

Glasgow Life, which provides culture and leisure services on behalf of Glasgow City Council, is looking to recruit five events managers, an assistant events operations manager and an events safety officer to lead the city's events programme. The positions will add to the considerable experience already in place within the Events Team at Glasgow Life.

Glasgow is widely recognised as one of the world's leading sporting and cultural cities thanks in part to its exceptional portfolio of events. This includes annual offerings such as the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run, the World Pipe Band Championships, Glasgow Loves Christmas and the O2 Glasgow Mela as well as major one-off events including the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

This world-class programme is continuing to grow in the lead up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The new Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, set to open in October this year, will host major events at Scottish, British, European and World levels in a variety of sports including athletics, netball, gymnastics and track-cycling.

Head of Events at Glasgow Life, Colin Hartley, said: "Glasgow has an internationally renowned reputation for delivering major events and with the Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome set to open later this year, as well as the Commonwealth Games in 2014, there is no better place to be for events professionals.

“Our Events Team has an established track-record in delivering world-class events and we want to add to the considerable expertise we have in this area. This will allow us to reinforce our position as one of the world’s leading destinations for events.

"The successful delivery of world-class events, both sporting and cultural, can inspire people to lead more positive and active lives and these posts can help us achieve that. That will be a real and lasting legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games."

Applications for all posts close on Sunday 29th April 2012 at midnight. Please visit www.glasgowlife.org.uk/vacancies for further information on how to apply.
