As Sport Relief fever takes hold everyone, from children to celebrities, is gearing up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Glasgow – and now the City of Glasgow Gymnastics Team are ready to go the extra mile too!
Today (Thursday) gymnasts from the City of Glasgow Gymnastics Team tackled a training session with a difference at Scotstoun SportsStadium with an impressive flippin’ frenzy as they warm up for the Glasgow Mile on Sunday 25th March.
The enthusiastic team were willing to back-flip a mile for Sport Relief and encourage the people of Glasgow to do their bit by entering the Glasgow Mile.
City of Glasgow Gymnastics Team coach Shona Regan said: “We are used to going the extra mile to achieve success, so today it has been lovely to back flip the extra mile for Sport Relief. We hope you, Glasgow, will go the extra mile too by doing the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile right here in Glasgow.
"You don’t have to be bendy like us! Anyone can join in and get sponsored to do the Mile. The money you raise really does make a difference here in Glasgow, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.”
Glasgow Life is working with Sport Relief to help deliver the Glasgow Mile. Chair of Glasgow Life, Councillor George Redmond, added: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is a fantastic community event and was a huge success in the city in 2010. We at Glasgow Life are delighted to be working with Sport Relief on the Glasgow Mile and are urging everyone across the city to enter now and make this even bigger and better than before.”
Anyone can enter the Mile and take on the 1, 3, or 6 miles on offer. Rope in friends, family, colleagues and neighbours and go the extra mile for Sport Relief! The atmosphere in Glasgow will be electric with fun and entertainment along the way, as thousands of people take to historic George Square before passing iconic landmarks including the City Chambers, Merchant City and the Gallery of Modern Art.
This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their Sport Relief socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to raise vital funds for vulnerable people across the UK and the world’s poorest countries. Enter the Glasgow Mile right now at www.sportrelief.com
