Free shuttle bus service for British International Athletics Match

Organisers of this weekend’s sold-out British International Athletics Match in Glasgow have confirmed that a free shuttle bus service will be in place to help get ticket holders to and from the event.

Glasgow Life and UKA have confirmed details of a free shuttle bus service from Buchanan Bus Station to the Emirates Arena on for the duration of Saturday’s event. The move follows the successful operation of similar integrated transport plans at the recent UCI Track Cycling Word Cup and Glasgow World Cup Gymnastics events at the Emirates Arena, which were attended by around 20,000 and 5,000 people respectively.

A similar initiative was also operated for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s at Scotstoun Stadium in May 2012, which was attended by 27,000 people. The shuttle bus services help reduce traffic congestion and alleviate any potential parking issues in local communities.

Saturday’s shuttle service is completely free for ticket holders and will operate at regular intervals throughout the day with a reduced service during the event. Services from Buchanan Bus Station (Stances 23 – 32) will run on a circular service between 10.15am to 6pm, with an operational capacity of up to 2,000 passengers per hour.

A limited number of car parking spaces will also be available at Celtic Park on a first come first served basis. The stewarded car parking area at Dalriada Street can be accessed via Janefield Street. Those who need to travel by car are reminded that London Road is closed at Celtic Park.

A spokesman for Glasgow Life said: “This weekend’s British International Athletics Match is shaping up to be a fantastic curtain raiser for world-class athletics at the Emirates Arena. It will be the first international athletics event at the venue with thousands of fans expected on the day.

“We are delighted to once again be able to offer a free shuttle bus service to ticket holders. The free service will make a real difference to fans and will minimise the strain on the public transport network, as was the case at the recent track cycling and gymnastics events.”
