Glasgow Collects Scheme Launches

A scheme to allow people to suggest which objects Glasgow Museums should collect is being launched. We are asking the public, as individuals or groups, to suggest objects that sum up 2012 for them. The pilot project will run from mid December until January 27th.
The objects we decide to collect will go on show at one of Glasgow’s museums in 2013. Suggestions about items, which could be either donated or purchased, can be made through the Glasgow Life website at
All online suggestions will be considered, with a Glasgow Museums Collection Meeting making the final decision. However we are not in a position to accept donations from people bringing them to one of Glasgow’s Museums.  We are also looking for volunteers who are interested in sitting in on these collections meetings.
Councillor Archie Graham, Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “The people of Glasgow take great pride in all their world-class collections, but the collections that tell the history of this great city are particularly popular. Now the people of Glasgow have an opportunity to help shape how we remember the city’s history, reinforcing once again the public ownership of the collection.”
Dr Ellen McAdam, Head of Glasgow Museums said: “We want objects that help us to tell stories about what life in Glasgow was like in 2012. We hope this pilot project will develop into an annual opportunity for people to influence Glasgow’s internationally renowned collections. It will help us to keep the collections up to date and visitors to our museums will be able to enjoy the new additions almost immediately.”
