Thousands of rugby fans are expected at Scotstoun Stadium this weekend for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s – one of the biggest events in the rugby calendar.
The Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s will give rugby fans in Glasgow the chance to see the best in the world in the heat of battle. Fans will be able to see host nation Scotland along with rugby giants including reigning series champions, the All Blacks, South Africa, Fiji, France, England and Australia.
As well as the international rugby action there will also be kids ‘come and try’ skill zones, a festival of rugby for clubs across Scotland and a special autograph zone, helping create a real party atmosphere. For further information on tickets please visit www.glasgow7s.com.
It is the second time the event has been staged in Glasgow with last year’s event attracting a record 26,500 fans. Glasgow is part of an elite list of host cities that also includes Dubai, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and London.
As part of the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s a side from the Arnold Clark Legacy 7s Series will take on a side from the King of the 7s Series on Sunday. The Legacy 7s Series is part of the ongoing legacy programme for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and brings together established rugby sevens from across the central belt.
Launched in 2011 the Legacy 7s Series is backed by Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, Scottish Rugby and rugby clubs across Scotland. It will assist with player development and increase awareness of rugby sevens ahead of Glasgow 2014. Rugby sevens will be played at both the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Chair of Glasgow Life and the Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, Councillor Archie Graham, said: “As we look ahead to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games it is fantastic to see rugby 7s on the big stage here in Glasgow. This weekend will see some of the best teams in the world in action at Scotstoun Stadium and it will be great to see a select from the Legacy 7s Series play a part in that.”
Director of Commercial Operations, Communications and Public Affairs, at Scottish Rugby, Dominic Mckay, said: "The Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s is a shop window to the global phenomenon that is international seven-a-side rugby. You can still get your tickets for this fun, fast paced, try packed event from Scotstoun on both days."
