Live Music Comes to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall Cafe

Live Performances Come to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall Café

This summer Glasgow Music launches Music Café, a project aimed at creating a new and exciting performance space for school and community music ensembles to showcase their talents.

The project has been designed to enhance, animate, and develop the public experience within the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (GRCH) by providing free performances within the café area. With a wide range of music styles and ensembles on offer, Music Café will promote GRCH as an accessible venue, helping to create new community and school partnerships through public engagement.

Performances come from talented school and community ensembles and this exciting new project provides the stage to show off their abilities. Music Café follows Glasgow Music’s wider vision to engage with the community by directly supporting music groups with a platform to perform at one of the city’s best venues.

Running as a pilot programme the project was launched in May with performances from Edinburgh’s Clifton Hall School’s Chamber Choir, Samba Band, and String Ensemble. Forty-eight youngsters in total entertained café visitors with an eclectic mix of music. Most recently the Glasgow Gaelic School brought their traditional folk talents to GRCH, with performances from Na Deep Fried Mars Bar and Orcastra SGG, fresh from winning the Royal National Mod 2013 and Quest for Talent 2014. Also performing from the school were their impressive accordion and clarsach groups.

Christopher Barr, Glasgow Music Learning Producer, said: “Music Café is a four week project aimed at creating a new and exciting performance space for community and school music ensembles to showcase their best practice. The next Music Café performances will take place on Thursday 12th and 19th June from 1:30pm. We are hoping to roll out more events like this after the summer so watch this space!”

Visitors are invited to enjoy tea and cake in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall Café with some delightful background music, or simply drop in to hear the performances.
