The Olympic flame will arrive at the Art Gallery & Museum, Kelvingrove on the 8 June at 5.43pm then proceed up Byres Road turning right into University Avenue and then down Gibson Street heading into the town centre. There will be a series of choirs along the route from the west end to the city centre as part of Creative Scotland’s ‘Summer of Song’.
There will be a torch celebration event at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on the 8 June, as part of Growing Bolder – Glasgow’s Active Ageing Week. The event will begin at 1.30pm and will include live music and a tea dance, a performance by the Still Dancing group and a display of crafted medals and trophies made by members of the Impact Art Craft Cafes and primary school children from the city. Come along and enter into the spirit of the 2012 Olympic celebrations!
The Torch completes its route in George Square, as part of a spectacular show featuring Emeli Sande, Eliza Doolittle and generalfiasco, presented by the Olympic Torch presenting partners Coca Cola, Panasonic and Lloyds TSB. A local flavour will be presented in the show through specially commissioned dance and music performances by Y Dance, Scottish Ballet’s Youth Collective , Glasgow’s Gaelic School and Glasgow University Gaelic Choir, and local beatboxer Bigg Taj.
Early birds can catch the flame at the Riverside Museum on 9 June at 7.03am heading up to Beith Street and straight up Byres Road onto Queen Margaret Drive then left along Maryhill Road.
