Helping the unemployed get back to work
What is 'Work Matters'?
‘Work Matters’ is a new joint initiative between Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency (GSERA) and Glasgow Libraries. A pilot project has been launched in Langside Library, Castlemilk Library, Gorbals Library, the Couper Institute Library in Cathcart and Leisure and Lifestyle at The Mitchell Library.
‘Work Matters’ provides a full range of new information for local people looking for jobs and training opportunities. The libraries taking part in the pilot project all have dedicated areas providing information on looking for work, job applications and CVs. Anyone coming in to the library that is currently unemployed will be able to access GSERA’s services free of charge.
Why is it only available in Some libraries?
If the pilot is successful it is hoped that the Work Matters initiative will be rolled out to all libraries throughout the city.
What's On Offer?
Work Matters provides information on a full range of employment related areas including:
- Help with CVs and application forms
- Help with applying to college and further education.
- A volunteer programme
- A business start-up team
GSERA can also provide a range of free ‘in house’ courses as well as free Money and Benefits advice. All this and more is available at selected local libraries in the south east of the city right in the heart of the community.
