Why become a library member?
As a Glasgow library member you can use your library card in any local library across the city and The Mitchell Library. You can borrow books/CDs/DVDs, get free Internet access from any library PC, use our Wi-Fi (selected libraries only), join in with events and talks or access top-quality online resources.
How do I join?
It's easy - visit your
local library or
The Mitchell or
join online now. You'll get immediate access to many of our online resources. To become a full member we'll need to see proof of your name and address next time you visit your local library. If you don't have proof of address you can still join as a temporary member.
what can I borrow?
You can borrow the latest bestsellers or enjoy the classics. The quickest way to check if we've got a copy and reserve online is to
search the online catalogue.
Glasgow Libraries also work in partnership with organisations such as Sandyford Library (health information) and Macmillan Cancer Support (an information and support service for people affected by cancer based in the east end of Glasgow).
How many items can i borrow?
Adults, including Young Scot Card holders aged 14-18, can borrow up to:
12 books for 4 weeks
6 CDs for 1 week
6 DVDs for 1 week
Under 14s, including Young Scot Card and Kidz Card holders, can borrow up to:
6 CDs for 1 week
6 DVDs for 1 week
As a temporary member you can use library PCs,access our online resources and borrow 2 books.
