Family History at The Mitchell

I was working on my family history and the librarians were very helpful. I found a book that was 200 years old that solved a brick wall on old family history!

Learn how to trace your family tree and research the lives of your ancestors. We offer a mixture of online and in-person services that include:

  • Birth, marriage and death records from 1855 to the present day
  • Glasgow electoral registers from 1857 to 1962
  • Burial and cremation records

What makes Family History at The Mitchell Library special is that it holds the Glasgow City Archives and Special Collections, allowing you to access millions of records all in one place.

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to point you in the right direction. More info
