Intellectual Property (IP) is protection for creativity and innovation. An understanding of IP and its protection is important for anyone with an idea, whether it’s an invention, design, brand name, literary work or a song. This session will give you the knowledge to identify the IP assets contained within your business and how best to protect them. The session will cover the four main types of IP protection – copyright, patents, trademarks and designs.

Introduction to working in Retail

Overview
The course is aimed at job seeking clients who are investigating the idea of a career in retail. It is particularly aimed at those with little or no experience of the sector and the subject is covered by class discussion, exercise tasks and group discussion.
Learning Objectives
• Identify Personal qualities that would be needed to work in Retail
• Identify and discuss various different roles within the retail sector
• To discuss the purpose of Job Descriptions and a Contract of Employment
• Gain insights into pay and conditions within retail, looking at National Minimum Wage rates as currently apply
• To identify the other rewards and benefits associated with working in this sector
• To identify good working practice within Retail sector with reference to industry leader
• Evaluate the importance of customer service/product knowledge in Retail
• Brand awareness and recognising your own brand
