​These courses are perfect for anyone who has completed our Getting Started sessions or anyone who has some computing experience and is ready to improve their skills and abilities.   These accredited courses​ do incur a charge and whilst ILA Scotland funding is no longer available,  Skills Development Scotland are launching a new replacement scheme in October 17.

Internet Module 7

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, ECDL is an internationally-recognised qualification in core IT skills. It is made up of 7 modules, allowing the learner to work at their own pace and in any order.

First Step 2   ECDL

A tutor-led course for  beginners covering several topics at basic level before moving onto the more formal Internet and Email Module 7 of ECDL.  ​On successful completion, learners will be awarded two certificates from BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT.

Learning is supported by a workbook and online learning materials and cover the following topics:

  • Computer Basics : understanding basic computer parts and terminology, how to use the computer, keyboard and mouse

Internet and Email

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, this Internet and Email course is part of the ECDL qualification in core IT skills. This is a tutor-led course which is also supported by an online course unit. The course covers the following topics:

  • Electronic communications
  • Using email
  • Email management

Digital Skills

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, this online course is designed to give learners the knowledge and understanding they need to develop a variety of digital skills. The course covers:

  • Computer basics
  • Online basics
  • Audio and video software
  • Digital photography
  • Digital music
  • Social networking

Security for IT Users

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, this course covers the skills and knowledge needed to identify and manage day-to-day security risks.

Word Processing

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, this course introduces the learner to the basic concepts of working with word processing.

Spreadsheet Software

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, this course introduces the learner to the basic concepts of working with spreadsheets.

Presentation Software

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, this course introduces the learner to the basic concepts of working with the presentation software, PowerPoint.

Database Software

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, the course covers the main concepts of databases.

Family History

This 5 week tutor-led course in an introduction to Family History and combines online resources with a tour of The Mitchell's Family History Room and Archives departments.
