Colleges and Universities

Glasgow Museums offer self-led and facilitated visits for further and higher education groups. Our dedicated venue-based learning teams can offer the following facilitated sessions to support your coursework:
Travel and Tourism - An opportunity to learn more about our visitor profiles and numbers, marketing strategies, services, public programmes and visitor research. Includes a presentation followed by a short tour of the venue.  Available at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Gallery of Modern Art, Scotland Street School Museum and People’s Palace Museum.   
Travel and Tourism session at Riverside Museum - Enjoy an introduction to the outdoor space, building and displays with a focus on what we offer our visitors and why.  Learn about audiences and try out our digital interpretation. Look beyond the museum to see how we connect with neighbouring communities. Finish with an informative presentation and the opportunity to ask questions.
Architecture and Design: The Riverside Museum - Find out about the design of this remarkable museum, awarded European Museum of the Year. 
Childcare and Early Education - Glasgow Museums offer a fun and interactive programme of workshops for nursery groups and families with children under 5. This session will give an overview of the different sessions on offer, with an opportunity to try out some resources and activities. Available at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow Museums Resource Centre and Scotland Street School Museum. The session at Scotland Street School Museum will also provide the opportunity to see how school life and teaching methods have changed since Victorian times. 
Chair Design - An opportunity to see our extensive collection of chairs in store at the Kelvin Hall which feature a range of designs and materials. See how design has been influenced by function, fashion and changes in technology. Discover how we conserve and restore our collections and how to accurately measure a piece of furniture for reproduction purposes. 
Creative Industries at GoMA - Go behind the scenes and find out about the different jobs and roles at GoMA; including those who are involved in putting on an exhibition. This is an ideal opportunity to get an insight into the gallery sector and can be a starting point for project with in partnership with the venue. 
All sessions cost £35 for Glasgow institutions and £40 for those outwith Glasgow. Maximum numbers 25 students. You will be invoiced after your visit.

With sufficient notice, and providing we have staff available, we can also devise a bespoke session that meets your needs. 
If we do not have the resources to provide a facilitated visit, we can still support you in delivering your own self-led visit and may be able to provide rooms for practical work. 
Please note, for highly specialised tours, we may put you in touch with one of our subject curators. There will be a higher fee for these tours.

 From 1st April – 1st October 2017 Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will be hosting Frank Quitely - The Art of Comics exhibition. Researching the Collections

 Want to find out more about what’s in our collections? Why not start by browsing the documents on the right hand side which provide an overview of the key objects in each of the 4 major groupings: Transport and Technology, Natural History, Human History and Art and Design. Most of Glasgow Museums’ objects which are not on display in any one of our museums are stored at GMRC or the Kelvin Hall.
Please be aware of the fact that there may be some restrictions to accessing objects for reasons of health and safely or cultural sensitivity.

Exploring Museums – Support for Learning groups

Our Exploring Museums programme provides life skills and social skills for pupils accessing support for learning courses at college. Each museum can offer a programme which runs over 3 sessions covering a range of topics and skills. The cost is £50 per group for all 3 sessions.
