Manpower Services Commission (MSC)

Between 1984 and 1987, a series of archaeological works in the general area of Glasgow Cathedral and the High Street was carried out.  The work was done by the Manpower Services Commission (MSC) under the guidance of the Scottish Urban Archaeological Trust (SUAT).

The finds were passed to Glasgow Museums through Treasure Trove but were unpublished.

SUAT has loaned the documentary archive to Glasgow Museums. Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd have produced an interim publication and updated plan for analysis and publication of the MSC and other excavations in Glasgow.

Glasgow Life and Historic Scotland plan to make the results of these works publicly accessible through:

  • a published report
  • displays
  • exhibitions
