About the Annual Art Competition

What is the competition?

Glasgow Museums Annual Art Competition is a drawing competition for children which was established in 1904, and continues to this day.

This competition is for all ages, from nursery to secondary school age (ages 3-18yrs). Groups can organise a museum visit to inspire and create their art works. The competition is also open to individuals and non school groups, all you have to do is come along to your favorite Glasgow Museum venue and create a masterpiece of your own to enter!

2014 brings us to our 110th year and we are celebrating by launching our first on-line Award Winners Gallery.  Here you can view this year’s award winning artworks and gather inspiration for your own entries for 2015!

How can I enter?

The 2015 competition is now open and you can visit any of Glasgow’s museums to enter.  Pupils have three hours in which to complete a drawing or painting… don’t worry if you don’t get to finish it in the three hours, we like works in progress too! You can create your artwork using any medium (only pencil at Burrell) and in any size.

Bring your own materials and hand the work in at the reception or visitor information desk at the venue you visit.

Make sure the work has your full name, school name and your school year on the back of your piece; all entries must be received by a venue by 31st May 2015.

Entries are judged within age bands and winners will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals at a glittering ceremony in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

All artworks will be judged by professional artists and art educators.

We hope to see you at one of our Museum venues very soon.
