Borrowing from the Collection
Glasgow Museums is committed to providing the widest possible access to its collection. We will consider all requests for loans carefully and respond to them promptly. We will agree to as many loans requests that meet the physical and intellectual criteria as we can service with our available staff resources.
Glasgow Museums Lending Moratorium – Now In Operation
From now until the end of 2020, Glasgow Museums is carrying out a number of major capital projects. These include the redisplay of the Burrell Collection, which involves planning and carrying out the decant of collections housed there (approx. 22,000 objects) alongside preparations for international tours and the redisplay and fit out of the collection and building. We are also packing and moving 200,000 objects from an off-site store to a new storage venue, as well as carrying out general housekeeping moves. Most of this work is being undertaken by our own staff, and in order to complete these projects we have put a moratorium on all further loans of objects until December 2020 for exhibitions opening post-December 2021. Please refer to Glasgow Museums’ Lending Policy
We will of course honour existing lending agreements which have been formally approved and which have already been agreed to take place over this period.
For institutions who wish to reference Glasgow Museums collections in their research or catalogue, we may be able to provide publication-quality images if an object has been photographed. This will be under licence through our Photo Library – please direct enquiries to Photolibraryenquiries@glasgowlife.org.uk; phone (+44) (0)141 276 9477 or visit www.csgimages.org.uk
