The work to hang Spitfire LA198, 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron, from the ceiling of the west court was a huge technical and logistical feat.
The aircraft was to be angled as though flying low through the building. And visitors would be able to view it both from above and below.
Measurements indicated there would only be a few centimetres of clearance between the wing tips and the first floor balconies.
The additional weight of the aircraft on the ceiling, though, would prove to be too much of a strain on the building.
The team tasked with the job had to come up with a viable solution.
