Dali was a notorious self-publicist. It seemed as though he would do or say anything to gain notoriety and publicity.
Often it seemed as though he was more famous for being famous than for being an artist.
Here is a small selection of quotes from him:
‘All my work has always been influenced by my dreams – even as during my period of Surrealism my dreams were very much influenced by my Freudian studies, today they are similarly influence by my study of nuclear physics.’
‘People love mystery, and that is why they love my paintings.’
‘I seated ugliness on my knee, and almost immediately grew tired of it.’
‘When I paint, the sea roars. The others splash about in the bath.’
‘Every morning, upon waking, I experience a supreme pleasure: that of being Salvador Dali, and I ask myself, wonderstruck, what prodigious thing will he do today, this Salvador Dali?’
