In 1568 an important battle marked the end of the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots. It was fought in what is now the south side of Glasgow.
This story shows how the Battle of Langside became part of the area’s history.
It looks at evidence from the battle itself, plus:
- iconic objects belonging to Mary, Queen of Scots
- the Victorian commemoration of the battle, and
- the assimilation of the story of the battle into the lives of successive generations living in the south side.
As well as objects from the battlefield, the display focuses on:
- imagery
- place names
- monuments
- genealogy
- folklore, and
- associated myths and legends.
