This display examines what minerals are and celebrates the beautiful appearance of many specimens.
The attraction of some is only revealed under ultraviolet light. Several minerals fluoresce (emit light) in these conditions. Their colour may be different from that in ordinary light.
The inherent beauty of minerals and precious stones is exploited to create decorative items such as jewellery. And in this display natural specimens are displayed alongside worked examples of the same material.
