Famous Scottish Wildlife

Scotland's Wildlife

Scotland is a diverse country with a rich and varied wildlife.

This story includes a Highland calf to show that some apparently ‘wild’ animals are actually domesticated.

The story emphasises Scotland’s rich fauna and flora. It highlights and gives information about some of the best known Scottish wildlife, such as:

  • golden eagle
  • red deer
  • red grouse, and
  • the wildcat.
It also features some of Scotland’s less well known but important species such as:
  • crossbills
  • crested tits, and
  • hooded crows.
And plants such as:
  • the Scottish primrose, and
  • the thistle.
Scotland’s most infamous wildlife – midges – are featured. And the myths of the haggis are dispelled.
