St Nicholas Garden at Provand's Lordship was created as part of a tourist and environmental initiative.
Partners in the initiative were Glasgow Development Agency, Glasgow City Council, and Strathclyde Regional Council. The project centred round the Cathedral and old High Street.
Six firms of landscape architects were invited to submit their proposals and the contract was won by James Cunning, Young and Partners.
The aim was to create a garden for the oldest house in Glasgow. The house is also considered to be one of the most important 15th Century buildings in Scotland. It is a Grade A listed Ancient Monument.
