Evening Kick Off for Cup Final Weekend at Kelvingrove

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is offering football fans the ideal chance to kick off cup final weekend at the end of May. Kelvingrove will open the exhibition More than a Game:How Scotland Shaped World Football to the public on the evening of Friday May 24 as the perfect curtain raiser to the Champions League Final and the Scottish Cup Final.
More than a Game examines how Scottish Football influenced the game across the world. Among the objects on display is a medal which has recently been confirmed as the oldest football trophy in the world, the world’s oldest football and a tanner ba’.
“More than a Game” gives a unique insight into Scotland’s enduring influence across 200 football associations coupled with an exploration of people’s relationship with football and the skills of the modern day footballer.  “More than a Game” will be open from 6pm until 10pm on Friday May 24 and the exhibition runs until the end of August.
Entry to the exhibition is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. Under 16s get in free. There are also football related ticket offers for 5-a-side and 11-a-side groups buy 4 get 1 free or buy 9 and get 2 free - available on both ticket types and can also be a mix of concession/adult in one transaction. Tickets are available to buy from the Kelvingrove Shop.
Among the exhibits are goalposts and seats from Hampden and the stories told are of pioneering individuals which will help to provide examples of characteristics and attributes required to make an impact on the game such as Rose Reilly Peralta, the only Scottish player to lift the World Cup, albeit for Italy and Andrew Watson, the world’s first black player to play at international level.
Councillor Archie Graham, Chair of Glasgow Life said: “The final weekend of May looks set to be a feast for football fans and Kelvingrove is providing the ideal opportunity to kick it off. More Than a Game is a detailed examination of how Scottish football helped shape the global game today and is a must see for all football fans. It is the perfect way to get ready for 2 of the biggest games of the season.”
