The search is on to find an army of volunteers to represent Glasgow to the world when the football tournament comes to Hampden Park as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
With just six months till the first of eight Olympic football matches is played at Hampden Park on Wednesday 25 July, Glasgow Life is looking for applicants to its Glasgow Ambassador programme. The eyes of the world will be on Glasgow during the Games and Glasgow Ambassadors will play a key role in ensuring visiting fans enjoy their stay.
As well as having a love of sport and a desire to play a part in the Olympic Games, applicants should have a passion for Glasgow. Successful applicants will act as hosts to fans and other visitors to the city during the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and the Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, Councillor Archie Graham, said: “This really is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in the London 2012 Olympic Games when football comes to Hampden Park.
“We are looking for people to be the face of Glasgow during what will be the biggest sporting event in the city this year. Opportunities to be involved in an Olympic Games are few and far between so we expect interest to be very high but those who step forward will remember it for the rest of their lives.”
Glasgow Ambassadors will play a number of key roles during the Games including welcoming visitors and fans at key transport interchanges, providing guidance on the route to and from Hampden Park and providing information on key city centre tourist attractions.
The Ambassadors are required to be available for a minimum of three shifts between Wednesday 25 July and Friday 3 August. To be eligible you also must be either a Glasgow resident, work or study in the city, or volunteer with a community/voluntary organisation in the city. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 31 January 2012.
