Glasgow Running Network’s annual 5k Fun Run takes place in Bellahouston Park this Sunday… and is set to be bigger than ever before.
Since its launch in 2001 the Fun Run has grown in popularity and last year attracted a record-breaking 650 participants. Entry levels for the 2011 run are already up on last year and with entries still being taken on race day (Sunday 27 March) organisers are confident even more will pull on their trainers and take part.
As well as being a fun day out for runners, the 5k race represents a key training milestone for those taking part in longer distance races including the 2011 Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k on Sunday 8 May.
Louise Morgan, Physical and Outdoors Activity Officer with the Glasgow Running Network, said: “We were blown away by the numbers who took part last year, when we more than trebled in size, and we are on course for another fantastic race day next weekend.
“There is no doubt that its continued success is in part to the huge numbers taking part in events such as the Women’s 10k. For those women running the 10k it is an excellent way of gauging how well your training is going.
“The great thing about the annual 5k Fun Run is that it is open to men and women of all abilities. So regardless if you have never run before, 5k is an achievable distance for people of all levels of fitness. Every year we welcome runners, joggers and walkers making it one of the most inclusive events around.”
On the day registration costing £10 is available from the Palace of Art at Bellahouston Park. The race gets underway at 10am but if you haven’t registered please ensure you get there in plenty of time to avoid disappointment. All finishers receive a t-shirt, medal and goody bag. There will also be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female finishers.
