Merchant City Festival Get Involved Fund Opens For Applications

The Merchant City Festival presents some of the best of Scottish and international art and entertainment with a programme of street arts, music, theatre, food & drink, visual art, film, comedy, dance, fashion & design, children & families activities and literature, while showcasing the unique cultural hub that is the Merchant City.  The Merchant City Festival 2015 will take place in late July and early August after the great success of Glasgow 2014, when it was at the heart of Festival 2014.

The ‘Get Involved’ Fund exists for local businesses and organisations to programme something special for the Merchant City Festival.  Proposals should be for support for something different from your year-round programme of events. We are also prioritising applications for activities and events that take place in the streets and public spaces in the Merchant City, even if that is immediately outside your business base.  The streets that will be closed to traffic are: Wilson St (east from Glassford St); Hutcheson St; Brunswick St; Candleriggs; Bell St (west of Albion St); Albion St (weekends only); Bell St (between Albion and Walls St – weekends only).

Key themes this year that you might want to respond to are:

Glasgow’s Year of Green; More info at:

Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink; more info at:

We are also running a Family Zone within the Merchant Square and are also looking for activity that would be suitable for this area.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of the Merchant City Festival Committee said: “The Merchant City Festival is a vibrant, exciting and eclectic showcase which helped tell the story of modern Glasgow during the best ever Commonwealth Games. So many local businesses and organisations take part in the Merchant City Festival every year and the Get Involved Fund is aimed at helping them come up with something unique and creative for 2015.”
