Museums launch hunt for art medal winners

23/01/2012
Glasgow Museums has launched a hunt for wartime winners of their Annual Art Competition who’d never collected their medals. Around 60 medals, mostly dating back to 1943-44 were recently discovered with most of them still in their original boxes bearing the names of the winners and the school they were attending at the time.
One of the winners who hadn’t claimed their medal was the Glasgow singer and television presenter Jimmie McGregor. His original medal hasn’t been found but he was recently presented with a newly struck replica in recognition of his work. Now the hunt is on to find the winners who haven’t claimed their original medals or to trace members of their families.
Anyone who wishes to claim a medal should contact Anne Wallace on 0141 276 9507 or e mail anne.wallace@glasgowlife.org.uk
