Pace Yourself at the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run

For the first time ever pace setters will be used at the 2012 Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run Half marathon and 10k.  Race organiser, Glasgow Life, has recruited club runners who will complete each course to the quickest time in each start group giving entrants the perfect opportunity to smash their personal best.
Other improvements include freezing the entry price for the 2012 Half Marathon at £29 and £24 for the 10k and introducing the option to upgrade to a technical t-shirt, which is sure to appeal to the more seasoned runner.  In addition to the prized medal the t-shirt is a cherished souvenir for many.  However, the opportunity to upgrade to a new super-lightweight t-shirt, which helps keep you cool in training and on race day, is expected to be a big success for 2012.
Chair of Glasgow Life and Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, Councillor Archie Graham said: “The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run is the premier road race in the country and Scotland’s largest mass participation sporting event.  We have listened to what last year’s runners have said – good and bad – and made several key improvements to make sure it says that way.
“An event of this calibre attracts a multitude of Scottish runners, many are first-time participants or regular fun-runners with many more serious runners aiming to record their best ever time.  Be it simply crossing the finish line or completing the course in less than a cherished time, we hope that by introducing pace setters we are providing an even greater reason to enter in 2012.
“As we approach the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games it is vital we do all we can to increase participation and help people experience the feel-good factor that comes with achieving the goal of completing the course in a desired time.”
