2011 shaping up to be the best ever

Tickets for one of the most spectacular events held in Glasgow during the summer go on sale on Wednesday 27 April. Every year more than 200 hundred bands bring 8,000 pipers and drummers and thousands of spectators to Glasgow Green for the unique sights and sounds of the event which is affectionately known as “The Worlds”. The World Pipe Band Championships have been associated with Glasgow for more than 60 years.

Tickets for the Grade 1 Finals which will see the winners crowned World Champions are available in advance for £24 with general admission tickets priced at £9 in advance and £11 on the day. This year the World Pipe Band Championships are being organised by Glasgow Life on behalf of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and Glasgow City Council and are supported by EventScotland, Scottish Enterprise and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.

Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of the RSPBA said: “The Worlds have a long association with Glasgow and every year the challenge to deliver an even better event gets harder. The Grade 1 arena is where the best bands in the world come to compete and it is great news that even more people will be able to see the performances. There is huge interest in this year’s event and we know bands are already practising hard for their return to Glasgow.”
