Glasgow Club North Woodside given £110,000 refresh

ONE of Glasgow’s most popular gyms has been fitted out with the very latest health and fitness equipment as part of a £110,000 refresh programme.

Glasgow Club North Woodside has been transformed with fitness fans now having access to some of the most advanced facilities in the city. Glasgow Life has worked with leading fitness supplier Technogym on the project. Technogym was the official fitness equipment supplier at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

There are now 16 cardiovascular and 12 strength conditioning stations in Glasgow Club North Woodside. North Woodside is the first gym in the city to use ‘Unity’ screens that offer additional functions such as virtual training, while also allowing customers to surf the web.

The £110,000 investment is part of a £2.5million citywide refresh programme. Glasgow Club gyms at the Emirates Arena, Bellahouston, Scotstoun, Crownpoint, Easterhouse, Tollcross, Holyrood, Gorbals, Springburn and Castlemilk have already been fitted out with the Technogym equipment.

The refresh the gym at North Woodside comes just weeks after it was revealed that membership of the Glasgow Club health and fitness network is at an all-time high of 40,000 following the success of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. In the eight months since the end of the Games membership of the Glasgow Club has increased by over 8% to 40,000 as more people in the city decide to get fit.

Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow Life, Councillor Archie Graham, said: “The Glasgow Club is Scotland’s premier health and fitness network, with membership numbers now at record levels thanks to our investment in the latest equipment at gyms such as North Woodside.

“More and more people are recognising the benefits of keeping fit and they are choosing the Glasgow Club as the place to do so. We are the market leader in not just Glasgow but the whole of Scotland and have the best health and fitness team anywhere in the country. That is why customers continue to use our facilities.”

The Glasgow Club is Scotland’s largest health and fitness network and is managed by Glasgow Life on behalf of Glasgow City Council. Members have access to 22 gyms and 12 swimming pools across the city, including the £113million Emirates Arena and £14million Tollcross International Swimming Centre. A new gym is also planned as part of the Kelvin Hall redevelopment.

In addition to state-of-the-art gyms boasting the latest cardiovascular and strength and conditioning equipment, Glasgow Club customers also have access to over 1,300 fitness classes each week.
