You’re never too old
Don’t know if you caught the European Athletics Championship in Barcelona last week?
Great Britain had a fantastic week returning home with the best medal haul in 20 years courtesy of some fantastic performances from the likes of Mo Farah and Jess Ennis.
However, one of the biggest talking points was the inclusion of Merlene Ottey, not only because the once Jamaican sprinter now runs in Slovenian colours but because she is now 50 years old.
It is quite amazing to think that she won a silver medal for Jamaica at the Moscow Olympics in 1980, an incredible 30 years ago.
After the race Merlene said:
“Next year I’ll try to go faster and try and qualify for the World Championships. We’ll see about the Olympics after that.
At 40 I wanted to see how I could run. After all, everyone thought I was old at 30. Then I got to 45. Now at 50 I just want to see how I can run.
When I get to 60 I will still want to know.
There are no limitations to age. People are still running at 100. I’ll always run. It’s the challenge that keeps me going.”
Now we are not suggesting you all pull on the spikes and head for the track at Scotstoun but it just goes to show you are never too old to keep active!
So why not head to your local Glasgow Club
and have a chat with our fitness instructors who could set you a few exercises to get you on your way.
You don’t stop exercising when you get old; you get old when you stop exercising!!
