After School Club Delivery Support

On request, we will aim to provide a coach to work alongside a teacher for an identified period of time.

Exposure Programmes Linked to Local Clubs

In partnership with Active Schools, voluntary clubs and key partners we offer curriculum coaching session within schools to encourage increased participation in basketball linked to local club sites school.

Local competition programmes

Basketball Development are piloting a local competition programme for schools committed to basketball. The vision is to establish local/accessible, fun competition opportunities for schools who regularly participate in Basketball. Area based competition means transport costs will be minimal with emphasis on fun, friendly competition. Our aim is to create links between the schools. Schools will be encouraged to host mini games in their after school club time where possible.

Primary Teachers In-service

In partnership with Basketballscotland, local Primary Teacher In-service opportunities are available for teachers wishing to development their basketball skills and knowledge through Educations CPD courses.

Primary Basketball: P4-7

Wednesday 28 January 2015, 15.30-17.30
Shawlands Academy

This course will look at developing the fundamental skills of basketball: footwork, passing, shooting, dribbling and defensive stance and introduce tactical offensive movements. Accompanied by a resource manual will be a set of lesson plans that will include fun warm-ups, introduction of skills, game sessions and cool down. The main emphasis of the course will be how to deliver sessions with the main concept of learning through the playing of games, key to this will be the questions and challenges posed to the players. Each card will detail the lesson objectives, equipment needed, links to the curriculum as well as fully detailed and a well explained lesson plan.

Course is FREE of charge to all Glasgow Teachers.

The 2 hour module is accompanied by a resource manual and a set of activity cards. The activity cards offer suggested session plans.

Secondary Schools

League Competition

Basketball Development in partnership with the Basketball Development Group provides cup and league competition opportunities for S1 – S6 Secondary school teams. Our competition programme caters for new, developing and experienced teams from S1-6 for boys and girls.

BasketballScotland co-ordinate a National schools cup competition for S1, U14, U15 and Open age groups. Schools interested in taking part must affiliation to the Association.

Secondary Teachers In-service

In partnership with Education and Basketballscotland, local Secondary Teacher In-service opportunities are available for teachers wishing to development their basketball skills and knowledge through Educations CPD courses.

Core Basketball: S1/2

Wednesday 10 December 2014, 16.00-18.00

Using a games based approach this course will allow teachers to explore and develop sessions that maximize participation in games, cater for all abilities and cover the basic skills of basketball all aimed for use in a school hall. A resource manual will complement activity cards which can easily be used in your school games hall.

Course is FREE of charge to all Glasgow Teachers.

Continuing Professional Development

Glasgow life in partnership with BasketballScotland are currently working on devising a CPD course inline with the new National 4/5 curriculum to support teacher delivery.  Further details to will be available soon.
