The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has already been great news for the city. There’s been around £200 million worth of investment in fitness facilities across the city, and Glasgow has played host to some amazing sporting events. This year, the city has a chance to shine on a global stage like never before.
As a result of such significant investment, Scotstoun Sports Campus now
boasts one of the biggest gyms in the city as well as six brand new squash courts.
The Campus will host both the Squash and the Table Tennis events at the Games and, as such, we plan to make some changes to help you continue your healthy lifestyle with Glasgow Sport. The timeline below details the potential closures and then what it means for your activities:
|2G Synthetic Pitch
||Remain closed for replacement*|
|Main Building (including Badminton, Swimming Pool & Outdoor Hall)
|5 A Side
*As part of the £1.85m investment in our new gyms and pitches the 2G pitch will be upgraded to a 3G synthetic pitch post games giving you even better facilities to enjoy.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
Glasgow Club Members
It’s really important to us that you can stay active and feel great and when there is a temporary change to things, most Glasgow Club members find they’re better off with us because we’re more flexible than any other club and better equipped to support you.
As a Glasgow Club member you’ll find one of our other 19 other gyms across the city is near home or work so you can still fit your workout into your busy day. What’s more, we’re opening two Super Gyms (at Gorbals in January 2014 and at Bellahouston in June 2014) so there will be access to all the kit and expertise you need to have a great workout and leave the gym with a smile.
If the studio at your favourite Glasgow Club centre is affected, you won’t miss out! We’ll be continuing to run an exciting and varied timetable at another venue nearby and launching new classes. The new fitness class timetables will be on site and online at the end of March as usual and this will give you all the details of your favourite classes.
We are planning to move the majority of our fitness classes to a number of venues nearby including:
• Glasgow Club Donald Dewar
• Glasgow Club Maryhill
As normal the new fitness class timetables will be on site at the end of March for the new block and all the details of your favourite classes will be there.
Adult Sports Coaching
Our Adult Tennis programme will also continue at Drumchapel and Knightswood Tennis Courts. Any one to one swimming sessions will be rearranged through your coach and the most appropriate pool will be used.
If you have a regular let with us; a game of fives; a regular game of badminton; a sports club booking then, as you know, we are making every effort to find you an alternative venue for the period of the Games. More news to follow in the New Year.
