This year saw the primary school’s final being included in the event. Along with the primary final there were under 14, 16 and 18’s boys and under 15 and 18’s girls.

It was a very exciting day with some high quality basketball, school rivalry, friendships forged and after a long hard season emerging cup winners.

MATCH REPORT

Primary Final – St Rose of Lima v St Paul’s

The game started well with both teams working the ball to their advantage. St Paul’s number 10 worked hard under the hoop giving them an early lead. With the ball moving well for both teams there became more open shooting opportunities with St Paul’s early lead giving the a 9 point advantage at the half. An advantage they were able to increase with St Rosa of Lima unlucky in many of their shoots in the 3rd quarter. A strong 4th quarter by St Rosa of Lima was not enough to close the gap. Overall both teams played well but St Paul’s finishing ability lead them to victory.

Final Score St Paul’s 40 – St Rose of Lima 22

MVP – P Ochnio – St Paul’s

Under 14 Boys Final – St Mungo’s v St Aloysius

St Mungo’s dominated the first quarter with a 19-0 lead. St Aloysius did not let this lead deter them and battled hard to get to the hoop and stopping St Mungo’s going to the hoop. Another strong quarter by St Mungo’s in the third saw St Aloysius failing to score again. Great passing by St Mungo’s got them lots of open shots. Despite the huge difference in score St Aloysius never let it get to them and continued to battle to the final whistle. Credit to St Mungo’s whose strength and team work gave them a well-deserved unstoppable win.

MVP – G Mruk – St Mungo’s

Under 15 Girl’s Final – Calderglen v Hillhead

A more experienced Hillhead squad took control of the game early strong both in the offence and defence keeping Calderglen from getting to the basket. Hillhead also picked up most rebounds as their height dominated under the basket. Calderglen’s don’t quit fight hard attitude was not reflected in the score and they made Hillhead work for every point.

Knightswood couldn’t find a way to the hoop with Hillhead piling on the defensive pressure and moving the ball well in the offence. Despite Knightswood’s best efforts Hillhead kept control of the 2nd half and took away the win.

A close 3rd quarter with St Roch’s battling hard diving on lose balls and hustling in defence. Hillhead once again took control of the 4th with St Roch’s unable to score. Another game where the score did not reflect the hard work and effort of the runner up.

A strong first quarter with both teams exchanging baskets however Lourdes pulled away with some great inside play and hustle defence. Hillhead had a lot of making up to do but went to work in the 3rd and pulled back some points to go into the 4th 6 down. Both teams battled hard in the 4th but Lourdes proved insurmountable and maintained both their composure and lead to stay ahead and get the win over Hillhead.
