All eyes were on Glasgow in February as the Scottish Four Nations Para-badminton Championships, held at Glasgow Club Scotstoun from 17-19 February, produced three days of fantastic badminton.
A bumper entry of almost 100 elite Para-badminton players gathered at Scotstoun to compete in the Dwarf, Learning Disability (LD), Standing and Wheelchair categories, with Scottish success stories spread across all four events.
A huge success in terms of the entry but also in terms of the Glasgow based volunteers who assisted at the event. In addition to the many committed badminton volunteers, help at the tournament also came from Hillhead Secondary’s Sports Leader students who provided assistance with scoring and line judging.
Scotstoun was also busy over at the National Badminton Academy with 25 young players competing in singles and doubles in a bid to be crowned the Glasgow Club Scotstoun’s champions.
The Glasgow & NS Junior League took place at the Cockburn Centre on the Sunday with 70 young people from beginner to national squad level all competing within the same tournament. The Junior League offers five events over the course of a season with the final singles competition taking place on the 18th March at the Cockburn Centre. Glasgow & NS 2nd Group Team won promotion to Division 1 of the UK Inter Counties League – only one division behind the 1st team who are in Premier “B”. A great result which went down to the final mixed game of the day to gain victory!
