Originating in Scotland, Melrose to be precise, the game of sevens has really taken off over the past decade or so. It is now a regular game in the Commonwealth Games and has been introduced as an Olympic sport for 2016.
But what is it?
This is the faster paced shorter version of our wonderful game. With just half the team, (hence the 7's) we play in a much shorten game, depending on the tournament it can be anything from 22 minutes, over the full pitch which lends itself to lost of fast breaking, high scoring rugby.
Traditionally the sevens season starts around the end of the normal season in April, as the teams head for a summer break. Tournaments have popped up all over the country resulting in a great variety and a vibrant scene.
