Learn to Swim with Glasgow Sport

Exciting Changes!

From Sunday 23 October 2016, Glasgow Sport’s Learn to Swim programme will be going through some exciting changes. Following consultation with neighbouring Local Authorities and the National Governing Body for swimming, Glasgow Sport will now follow the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim Framework.

We are committed to continually refining the products we offer our customers, and these enhancements will deliver a stronger and improved swimming programme to participants.

The Learn to Swim Framework is designed to enable our teachers to deliver a progressive programme which produces swimmers who, depending on their ambitions, are either ‘club ready’ or ‘ready for lifelong swimming’.

Everyone who currently takes part in Glasgow Sport’s current swimming scheme will now move to the new programme.

There are many benefits for those participating in the Glasgow Sport Learn to Swim scheme.

  • Class time will be extended from 30 minutes to 40 minutes, ensuring all swimmers have the suitable time and opportunity to develop their skills
  • A new easy and simple Direct Debit payment method will be introduced, eliminating the need to queue and rebook at specific points throughout the year
  • All participants using the Direct Debit payment option will have unlimited access to leisure swimming in all Glasgow Club venues with pool facilities
  • Similarly Direct Debit customers will receive one family swim pass per month, valid for use in any Glasgow Club pool
  • A new online system will be created, allowing us to easily provide regular feedback on participants’ performance and progress
  • Seamless pathway through class levels
  • Each participant will receive a Scottish Swimming Certificate as they progress through each level

The Learn to Swim Framework

  •                 Early Years

The Early Years programme is designed to introduce you and your child to the water in a fun way, making it exciting and enjoyable for you both. It will provide you with the confidence and skills to help teach your child to swim.

  •           Learn to Swim Programme

Six levels – Preschool; Swim Skills 1; Swim Skills 2; Swim Skills 3; Swim Skills 4; and Club Ready.

The programme provides a fun, progressive and all-inclusive pathway for children to participate in any aquatic discipline to whatever level they aspire to. It has the core philosophy of being fun, child-centred and based on establishing the core aquatic skills which are fundamental to a child learning more complex skills.
