Since the programme launched four years ago, 187 Glasgow Sport Young Leaders have volunteered an average of 50 hours a year to gain recognised sports qualifications to develop themselves and take back what they’ve learned to the community sports club they volunteer at.
“It’s given me great opportunities; meeting other coaches and making good contacts; progressing my coaching ability. Most of all it gave me the feeling that I belong to something, something good and well worth my time.”
“The induction week helps to shape you as a person and coach; it helps you learn more about yourself and others. It has given me lots of tips that we can use when we are volunteering regardless of the ability of the participants. It was great fun and had a good balance of the ‘theory-like’ stuff and practical stuff.”
78% of Young Leaders agreed that the best part of the programme was meeting new people, learning new sports and gaining new friends. Since the programme began, 12,000 Primary school children have taken part in sports taster sessions delivered by Glasgow Sport Young Leaders.
If you like the sound of this fantastic opportunity, are aged 14-18 and live or volunteer in Glasgow, see the application pack here »
