Legacies and Bequests

Leaving a Gift in Your Will

No matter what size, all legacies to Glasgow Life will make a difference to our work

Legacies that have been left to Glasgow Life have helped to support a wide range of projects across Glasgow Life's services and venues.

Leaving a gift in your will to Glasgow Life will ensure that a project or an area that you are interested in supporting will continue long into the future.

In leaving a gift in your will to a charity, such as Glasgow Life, the gift is exempt from inheritance tax.  This means that it is deducted from the total value of your estate before the calculation for inheritance tax is made.

Should you wish to leave a legacy bequest in your will to Glasgow Life, please consult your solicitor.

There are several types of bequests:

  • Pecuniary Legacy

A gift of a fixed amount of money
  • Residuary Legacy

A residuary legacy is the gift of the remainder of your estate (or a percentage of the remainder) after all other gifts to family and friends have been distributed and all outgoings have been dealt with
  • Specific Legacy

A gift of a particular item, e.g. a house, a car or a piece or jewellery
  • Make a Pledge

If you wish to leave a legacy to Glasgow Life, it would help us to plan our future activies and programmes if you were to fill out a pledge form.

Any information you give will be treated in strictest confidence.

If you do complete a legacy pledge form, this is not a legal contract with Glasgow Life. You can change your mind at any point. On consultation with your solicitor, your choice of what your legacy should support is at your complete discretion.
