Papua New Guinea v Northern Ireland

On paper, the teams fighting for the 13th place were very evenly matched, and the tightly anticipated game did not disappoint.

Both Papua New Guinea and Northern Ireland had three wins from six games, with Northern Ireland averaging 46 goals per game compared to Papua New Guinea's 44, but Northern Ireland were victorious, winning 52 goals to 41.

Papua New Guinea, who finished in 16th place four years ago were eager to do better, whereas the Northern Irish had much to prove, having finished 8th in the Cook Islands in 2009.

"It's a bitter sweat victory tonight." said coach Jacqueline Portis. "It's quite a drop for Netball Northern Ireland but I don't want to take away from the girl's performance tonight, it was excellent."

Papua New Guinea pushed the Northern Irish all the way, wining the second quarter 13-11 but in the fourth period they lost focus and tiredness was evident. Northern Ireland's game lifted, and they capitalised on the shaky mistakes.

"Northern Ireland were able to settle better, in the end we were able to take it." said Portis.
