Malta v Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland got off to an ideal start to their Championship campaign, defeating Malta 68-21.
However the first quarter wasn't all plain sailing for Northern Ireland.
Malta put good pressure on the ball and were rewarded by the crucial turnovers they needed.
From the start only one goal separated the teams as the ball saw end to end action. The Northern Irish attack used effective zonal defence to secure possession and they began to pull away, leading 14-7 by the first break.
From then on Northern Ireland were firmly in the driving seat, dictating the way the game progressed.
The Maltese defence picked up many of the rebounds from the Northern Irish but failed to convert these into shooting opportunities for themselves, as Northern Ireland produced match winning interceptions to cement their lead.
A strong performance from Northern Ireland gave them their first win, but both teams face New Zealand as their next match.
