Through a programme of international education, we are striving to raise young people's awareness of their own situation in relation to that of others. This will enable young people to play an active role politically, socially, culturally and vocationally in an increasingly multi-cultural and international society.
A contact group has been established to support developing partnerships between the council, the voluntary sector and young people.
Programmes have continued to develop and each of the City’s Area Services teams will offer an international activity each year, most involving a group activity abroad although some using the theme of international education to promote citizenship within youth clubs in their area. Glasgow Life will focus its funding and resources on supporting work with Glasgow’s Twinned Cities and Commonwealth countries, in addition we will continue to support international collaboration with Wunsiedel, Germany which has a 50 year long tradition of youth exchanges with Glasgow.
Glasgow’s Twinned Cities are:-
Nurnberg – Germany, Rostov on Don – Russia, Dalian – China, Havana – Cuba, Turin – Italy, Marseilles – France, Lahore – Pakistan and Bethlehem – Palestine.
