One of Scotland’s finest fiddlers, Alistair McCulloch is equally esteemed as a teacher, a composer - with two tune collections to his credit - and dance-music stalwart, juggling longtime membership of both ceilidh band Coila and the Iain Cathcart Scottish Dance Band. He’s also released three excellent solo albums. All of which might seem to leave little time for performing, but each summer’s schedule includes a perennially popular tour with ex-Capercaillie whistle player Marc Duff, and Old Blind Dogs multi-instrumentalist and singer Aaron Jones. This rare winter sighting follows the trio’s long-awaited debut recording, 2018’s Off the Hook. “Ultra-tight, harmonious and lithe. . . top quality music-making” (Folking.com)
Drawing on the music of Scotland but combining it with world music influences and new compositions, OBT (Tom Oakes, Jon Bews and Daniel Thorpe) are sure to give a dynamic performance full of contemporary arrangements and surprises.
