A celebratory gala concert with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland in Glasgow, and the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Brandenburger Symphoniker in Berlin.

Through a live link, audiences in George Square Glasgow and at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in Berlin and the European Mile can experience the excitement and atmosphere of the concerts in both cities on the stage and big screen.

The popular concert programme features famous operatic tunes and melodies culminating in a mass singalong of much loved songs from Scotland and Germany.  Audience participation is essential!

The concert is presented by Jamie MacDougall and RCS drama student Rebecca Wilkie and features performances from the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland’s Symphony Orchestra, tenor David Lynne, soprano Emma Mockett, mezzo-soprano Rebecca Afonwy-Jones and baritone Mark Nathan as well as Glasgow-based folk band Eriska. The soloists are alumni and students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland which is consistently recognised as one of the world’s top 10 performing arts education institutions (QS World Rankings 2016-18). In Berlin, the Brandenburger Symphoniker and the artistic director Errico Fresis will present an entertaining summer-programme with music by Brahms, Bartók, Ravel. And – of course -  Mendelssohn's concert overture The Hebrides and Paul Linckes "Berliner Luft“. The concert will be presented by Friederike Westerhaus. Soloist: Israel Martins dos Reis.

This promises to be a spectacular evening capturing the energy of the young soloists, singers and orchestras and celebrating the ideals of European friendship and of an open, fluent European identity.

Followed by RCS students and acclaimed folk band Eriska.
