Scottish composer, producer, band-leader and all-round musical polymath Jim Sutherland presents arguably his most ambitious project to date, a multimedia meditation on the climate crisis and humanity’s relationship with nature, viewed through the lens of his Caithness birthplace.

Created in collaboration with BAFTA-winning filmmaker Morag McKinnon, and drawing on sources from his own childhood memories to conversations with leading climate scholars, When Fish Begin to Crawl embodies an urgent yet hopeful dialogue between art and science, spanning geological deep time and present-day eco-emergencies. Interwoven with multi-screen film projections, Sutherland’s impressionistic, resonantly evocative original score is performed by the Evolution Orchestra, a 21-piece ensemble of brass, strings and percussion, conducted by Matthew Rooke.
