Award-winning Gaelic/Scots singer Josie Duncan explores the history and legacy of Scottish coal-mining and its decline, in new arrangements and original music created with her father, Andrew Duncan, principal tuba with the BBC SSO. Dad also conducts the Newtongrange Silver Band, who feature in the performance alongside Pablo Lafuente (guitar), Laura Wilkie (fiddle), Hedley Benson (flugelhorn), Conal McDonagh (pipes/whistles), Alice Allen (cello) and guest singers.
Sweden’s Symbio are accordionist LarsEmil Öjeberget and Johannes Geworkian-Hellman on hurdy-gurdy. These might seem the unlikeliest of instrumental bedfellows, but unite in a dreamily lyrical, grandly cinematic sound, influenced by folk, minimalism, jazz and electronic music.
