The international best-selling author of Norwegian Wood and The Sixteen Trees of the Somme brings us the first book in a rich historical trilogy that draws on Norwegian legend. In the secluded village of Butangen at the end of the valley, headstrong Astrid dreams of a life beyond marriage, hard work and children. The renovation of their 700-year-old stave church brings two men into Astrid’s life; the Pastor Kai Schweigaard and architect Gerhard Schönauer and she must make a choice: to remain in her homeland or choose a daunting and uncertain future in Germany.

Parking
Please note that there is on-street surrounding The Mitchell Library, from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday this is metered. As this is also a local residential area, please use these spaces considerately. Alternatively, there is an a NCP Car Park on India Street next to Charing Cross Train Station which is a 2 minute walk away.
Photography and video recording
On occasion, Glasgow Life will be on the premises to film and take photos.
