UNESCO City of Music presents "Mandolin Mania"

The mandolin and guitar orchestra of North Germany (Norddeutsches Zupforchester) is one of Germany’s finest and they celebrate their 60th year by joining forces with Scotland’s “Da Capo Alba” for an evening classical, contemporary and film music….. sixty guitars and mandolins on stage is really something not to be missed.

Scotland’s award winning “Da Capo Alba” is the senior orchestral section of the Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association. This home-grown orchestra has delighted audiences throughout the United Kingdom and has taken part in performance tours abroad including Germany, Denmark and the Republic of Ireland.

The evening will include the premiere of a new work which is being recorded for broadcast by BBC Radio 3.

Over the past 9 months, in a collaboration born out of the “Adopt a Composer Scheme”, composer Nicholas Olsen has been working with Da Capo Alba. The result is an exciting new composition, a three-movement work called 'Three Carriages'.

“Adopt a Composer is run by Making Music in partnership with Sound and Music, in association with BBC Radio 3, and funded by PRS Foundation and the Philip and Dorothy Green Music Trust.”
