Nevis Ensemble is a brand new Street Orchestra for Scotland, bringing 70 performances to communities across the country during Glasgow 2018.

We will take our energetic 40-piece orchestra, pop up and surprise commuters first thing in the morning, make guerrilla-style appearances in swimming pools, and even perform at the summit of Ben Nevis.

With the theme of Movement, and conducted by Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves, the orchestra will draw musicians from Scotland, London, Amsterdam and Berlin, performing everything from Rachmaninov, to Radiohead, a few Reels thrown in, and a brand new commission from award-winning composer Matthew Grouse.

Today's appearances:

  • Alzheimer Scotland, Tickled Trout, Milngavie 10:30am - 11:15am
Open to the public but geared towards local service users of Alzheimer Scotland in East Dunbartonshire.
  • Glasgow Lodging House Mission, East Campbell Street, Glasgow, 12:30pm - 1:30pm
A lunchtime concert for the service users of the Glasgow Lodging House Mission, which has been helping to provide care and support to homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded people, for around 100 years.
(FREE, but please contact enquiries@lhm-glasgow.org.uk if you are not connected with the centre but would like to attend.)
  • Glasgow Green Yoga, Glasgow Green, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
In collaboration with Studio 70 Yoga, Nevis shall lead an open-air yoga session where the orchestra shall be amongst participants as they enjoy a unique yoga experience. Open to novices and the more advanced, this promises to be a highlight of Glasgow Green’s 2018 activity.
FREE but bring a yoga mat if participating (or enjoy the grass!)
  • George Square, Glasgow, 6pm - 7pm

Nevis returns to George Square to entertain festival goers at the Festival 2018 Live Zone.
