Featuring the Sun King Orchestra
Half a century ago, between February and August, The Beatles recorded together for the very last time. The resulting LP, released in September 1969, met with mixed responses: the New York Times called the lyrics “limp-wristed, pompous and fake”; most of the songs an “unmitigated disaster”. Nowadays, of course, Abbey Road unanimously ranks among the Fab Four’s finest, with Billboard latterly declaring, “As rock music swan songs go, this might be the best there’s ever been”.
Roaming Roots Revue 2019 spotlights and celebrates the evergreen calibre of those 17 tracks, not least with the new addition of a full-scale orchestra, teaming with curator/MC Roddy Hart’s Lonesome Fire line-up as ‘house band’. Performing Abbey Road picks alongside their own material, a mouthwatering throng of singers includes the mighty KT Tunstall, spine-tingling harmony sorority The Staves, and You Tell Me, the newly-formed duo of Admiral Fallow’s Sarah Hayes and Field Music’s Peter Brewis, plus many more very special guests.
